Safety at Nava.
Every ride is a private boat for up to six guests and a USCG-licensed captain, from one registered dock to another. This is what is checked first.
Launching in Miami. Docks only.
Captain.
Captains on Nava are independent professionals. None of them goes online until a license, a background check and an ID have passed review.
A USCG license
Every captain holds a current USCG license to carry passengers for hire. A person confirms the license type and its expiration date, and a lapsed license cannot go online.
A background check
A captain cannot go online, or accept a trip, until a background check has passed.
A verified ID
Each captain's government ID is verified before they can go online or take a trip.
Drug testing
Federal rules require captains who carry paying passengers to be in a random drug-testing program. Nava asks every captain for proof of enrollment and its expiration date.
Boat.
Boats on Nava are independently owned. Each one is on file and reviewed before it carries anyone.
Registration on file
Florida registration or USCG documentation goes on file for every boat before its first trip.
Insurance on file
Captains and owners carry their own insurance, and every boat needs an insurance certificate on file before its first trip.
Reviewed by a person
Someone at Nava looks at the boat's photos and paperwork, and its tier follows its length and capacity.
Up to six.
Six passengers for hire is the federal limit for an uninspected passenger vessel (46 CFR 11.467). The app holds every booking to it, or to the boat’s own capacity when that is lower.
Dock.
Every pickup and every drop-off happens at a dock. Nowhere else.
Registered docks only
Riders board and step off only at docks registered on Nava: marinas, restaurants, hotels, clubs, venues, condo buildings and private homes.
Reviewed before it goes live
A person reviews each dock's approach and the longest boat it can take before it goes live, and the partner tells us the hours it takes boats.
Private stays private
A home or building dock can be a private stop. It never appears on the public map, and only people given access can book to it.
The captain handles the boarding
The captain brings the boat alongside, handles the lines and boards the guests. Riders pay in the app, so nothing changes hands on the dock.
Ride on launch day.
Nava is launching in Miami. Early-access riders get priority on launch day and hear first when the app goes live.
